Two Phantoms from Skia, suspended and installed at Art Biesenthal — faceted acrylic bodies that hang, wait, and move.

Each unit tracks the presence of visitors by radar and answers with vertical motion: drawing back when approached, rising to explore when watched.

Seen here in the space, the shadows they cast are never fixed — they shift with whoever stands beneath them.

Skia draws on Plato's allegory of the cave and the observer effect in quantum physics: the idea that nothing can be watched without being changed by the watching.
The phantoms make this tangible — they never simply exist for the viewer, but exist because of them, shifting and reacting so that presence itself becomes the material the work is made of.
